Norse get dominating win over Eastern

The Northfield girls’ basketball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday night, downing Eastern at home 72-17.

Northfield won each quarter on the night, jumping out to a 25-6 lead after one quarter and leading 41-9 at halftime. The lead ballooned to 57-16 before the Norse held the visitors to just one point in the final frame.

Ariel Dale finished with 21 points to lead the team in scoring. Kelcie Thomson had 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals while Abbey Ross had nine points and five rebounds. Ally Keaffaber finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Squires boys’ basketball team fell in a Three Rivers Conference battle at home on Tuesday against Maconaquah, 39-36.

The two sides were barely separated throughout as they were tied 10-10 after one before Manchester took a 22-21 lead at halftime.

The Braves took a 31-28 lead going into the final frame before both sides scored just eight points in the final period.

Weston Hamby had 13 points while Koehl Fluke finished with seven. Mason Hamby had six and Brayden Casper and Kam Lester finished with five apiece.

Casper had a team-high eight rebounds while Weston Hamby had three steals.

The Wabash swim team hosted Huntington North on Tuesday with the boys’ team coming away with an 87-68 win and the girls’ team falling 109-66.

In the girls’ meet, Leigha Boggs placed first in diving, Morgan Owens placed first in the 100-yard butterfly while breaking her own school record and Becca Bruss also broke her own school record in the 200-yard individual medley while placing second.

The boys’ team earned wins from Jacob Bruss in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke, Trace Goodwin in the 50-yard freestyle, Taylor Coffman in the 400-yard freestyle and Ryan Evans in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Jonah France, Bruss, Goodwin and Ryan Davis placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay while the team of Goodwin, France, Coffman and Bruss took first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Emmanuel Christian basketball team earned an 83-73 win over White’s Academy on Tuesday.

The Eagles were led by Davis Coyne’s 27 points, seven rebounds and six steals while Ariston Trusty chipped in 23 points and nine rebounds.

Jack Niccum finished with 15 points.
